CSP Point - What would you do?

Postby solomon » Mon Jul 25, 2016 6:28 pm

I have both the Chase Freedom and the Chase Sapphire Preferred.

These are the amount of points I have accrued:

1. Chase Freedom: 57,370
2. CSP: 56,556

What would you do?

I know some of you may say "Depends on what you want." But this question isn't about me; it is about what would YOU do?

Would you convert your CSP to your Freedom and redeem it for cash?

Would you convert your Freedom to your CSP and transfer it to an airline or hotel?

I am looking for the best idea.

Thanks in advance.

You can move UR points from one account to another and back again. There's nothing you can do with Freedom-dwelling points that you can't do with CSP, so there are very few reasons to move URs from CSP to Freedom.

Only do it if:
1. You're about to close CSP (or PC to a non-UR card) and don't want to commit to a particular transfer partner or 1.25 cpp travel booking, or
2. You have so few points that you can't buy a gift card unless the points are combined.

If you want to redeem points on CSP for cash, it's possible (if generally inadvisable). You don't need to move points to Freedom, or close CSP, or anything like that.

I've got lots of Hyatt points atm, but might "top off" my United mile balance for an award redemption.

Price rewind: Costco
Travel insurance: Prestige, CSP

Limited value, might close: Arrival

Might add: First Tech, proper business card

Transfer to MileagePlus which is what I do with all my UR points.

Polling is not the way to determine that. You should have researched the UR program before applying to ensure that you can leverage redemption options that provide a high value per point. You need to do this for any such program whether it is UR, Membership Rewards, Thank You, etc. Don't leave redemptions as an afterthought as they can have a significant impact on point/mile value.

Best is always highly subjective on any topic. You need to look at your needs/wants and what works best for you.
