HHonors & Amex PRG

Postby DogDadNY518 » Tue Mar 29, 2016 12:33 pm

Hi everyone,
Very new here, but have been lurking around, reading and learning.

I wanted to seek out some advice on how best to coordinate getting HHonors points when staying at a Hilton property - and booking the room through amextravel.

So I just received my PRG, and I am booking my upcoming business trip. I booked the flight directly with the airline to get the 3x points on that. That isn't a problem because I used my RR# (Southwest) when I booked the flight.

Now I am currently a Hilton Diamond member. Rather than book the room at hilton.com and get 1x points, I booked the same room at amextravel.com to get 2x points. When I did that, there was no asking me what my HHonors # was. And the reservation obviously does not show up in my HHonors account.

I know that I can always give the front desk my HHonors # when I arrive and check in - but I would like to have it on file ahead of time, in the event there are possible upgrades available. I want them to give them to me a Diamond member, rather than someone else because they didn't see my Diamond status.

I called Amex Travel and they said because they get the best rate, they cannot put the HHonors info on, and all I can do is add it at the front desk upon check in. (The rate they got was exactly the same rate that was available on hilton.com direct BTW).

Is this the best way to go about this? Any other ways to ensure that I get the 2x through amextravel, but also dont have to deal with the hassle of remembering to add my HHonors # at check in?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I think that Amextravel.com is considered a third-party booking website, making the stay ineligible for participation in HHonors.

I read a lot of complaints about Amex Travel and have never tried using it. I would use it if I was trying to book an error rate.

Thank you!

Looks like I'll have to do the math and see which is better. 1x MR and HHonors points on a slightly (maybe) more expensive rate at hilton.com - or - 2x MR and no Hhonors points on a slightly (maybe) cheaper rate at amextravel

Thanks for the help.

Well, I'd be surprised if Amex travel has a better rate. Do give an update if it does. Outside of the Hotel Collection and FHR (both for premium properties), I don't often hear about Amex travel being very appealing. I doubt the savings from Amex's lower rate (if you can, in fact, get one) would offset the value of an upgrade and the HHonors points.
