IHG/MC Priceless Surprises Promotion

Postby CarefulBuilder14 » Tue Dec 29, 2015 11:50 pm

Is anyone else mass-mailing entries? I did mine over Monday and Tuesday.

Costs:
Three focused hours spent researching, planning, shopping, and driving.
Five relaxed hours of television, writing out the 3x5 entry cards during ad breaks. Some on Monday, and some on Tuesday. My hand wasn't overworked this way.
One hour labeling, stamping, stuffing, and sealing envelopes.
$22 for pre-printed mailing labels (destination and return addresses).
$2 for 3x5 cards.
$6 for ballpoint pens.
$8 for envelopes.
$46 for postage.
$1 for gas.
Total cost: Four hours of work, five hours of semi-work, and $85.
Rewards: Not yet determined, but at least 47,000 IHG points worth somewhere between $250 and $550...and possibly more than 47,000 points.

$22 for pre-printed envelope labels? You could easily save a lot of money there by printing directly on the envelope. Microsoft Word has a mailing envelope tool that I send to my home printer on occasion. Toner is very cheap for laser printers, I might spend more on the electricity the printer uses than the toner on the paper. You might want to set your printer to "eco" or "ink saver."

Good luck! :money:

To summarize a very long and uninteresting story about compatibility between various printers and computers...printing right now would have been difficult without imposing on others.

Using labels wasn't cheap, but in my particular situation it probably saved a few hours.

This was a "correction" post in which I said I and others misread the promotion terms, and that it wasn't actually that appealing.

My "correction" was incorrect. The terms are, in fact, very favorable for IHG regulars.

Yes, I did this! I mailed them yesterday, in fact. The promotion is really terrific, assuming it all goes according to plan and none of my letters get lost in the mail (*knock on wood*).

I am also taking advantage of IHG's accelerate program to get even more points.

Are you going to play at weird hours? I might.

I'm still not totally clear on how the winner of each of the 1,600-ish A-level prizes is determined. Does the A-prize go to the first person in each "special A prize" time window? If each participant knows the result instantly, how could the odds be fairly distributed over all entries in that window when no one knows how many people will play in that window until it's over?

I don't know quite how they set it up, but if I'm up at some weird hour on a weekday, I'll play. I don't know when HelloWorld is processing the next batch of entries, but I doubt I'll play them all at once.

I got four emails, and have 90 to go. I played once and only won 500 points. I'll save the others for some night when I'm up late (and fewer people are inside by their computers, avoiding the snow).
