Which cards have Amex-like offers?

Postby CarefulBuilder14 » Tue Sep 08, 2015 7:23 pm

The Chase UR, Discover Deals, and Barclaycard RewardBoost portals tend to peak out at about 35% cash back on otherwise fair prices. Sometimes, even 5% or 10% is the most you can get. You don't really see "$20 off $20+" offers on those cards like Amex occasionally gives.

I've only heard vague things about BofA and Citi cards in this respect. Are they usually like Chase/Discover/Barclaycard? Or do they (or other issuers?) give offers like the "$20 off $20+" ones Amex sometimes gives?
Very useful: SchwabPlat, CSP, IHG, Costco (was AA Plat), Freedom, SPG, Prestige (retention)
Somewhat useful: Discover, ED (was EDP), BCE, Hyatt
SD with activity alerts, might close: Arrival

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech, BofA Travel PH, Aviator Red

Depends on how you look at it (this is a stretch). Chase has been sending me bi-monthly emails with referral bonuses of up to $100. You could look at it as "refer someone and get $100 off you next purchase anywhere!"

LOL, not really similar to Amex's offers. But I have yet to be offered anything better than a $5 for $20 spend at places I would never shop. Some UR portal places offer an extra 25+ points, but again are at places I would rarely shop. I think my NFL shop order got me an extra 100 points (woohoo!)
Chase Freedom $9k~~Chase Sapphire Preferred $6.5k~~Amex Blue Cash Preferred $12.4k~~Citi Double Cash $4.7k

I never really hear anyone talking about great offers from BOA. They have their "Bank Amerideals" or whatever, but again, have yet to see anyone mention getting some excellent deal from them.

But to be honest, just because a card offers them doesn't guarantee they'd ever be useful. Amex offers are only very occasionally useful to me. Without any guarantee of what you will be offered, it's probably not worth worrying about. Someone could say "oh, BOA always gives me these great offers!" but doesn't mean you'll get them, too!

I don't get ANY deals from them because the quantity/quality of the deals depends on how much you use the card. I did have one for 3% cack bonus at Whole Foods, but it was capped at $20 per transaction. Not that great of a deal.

Discover deals has always offered "$5 off $15 at Boston Market and "$5 off $5" at Panera, but I don't really go there. I do think I have redeemed at least one Discover Deal that offered at statement credit, but I haven't noticed too many good ones like the statement credits that Amex gives for Exxon, Chevron, Whole Foods, BestBuy, Walmart... I even had "$5 off $5 Dunkin Donuts" one time from Amex Offers. From what I've noticed, Amex Offers are the only great offers I've seen, and can make it worthwhile have more than one Amex.

Oh I get great deals from Bank Amerideals! To be honest the deals aren't THAT bad. Like 10% off at Starbucks and actual places I go to. I just don't ever feel like pulling that specific card out of my wallet for just those places. On a slightly different note, I see Bank of America has got a nice little TV ad for their Bank Americard Cash Rewards. And as such I've seen an influx of these cards at work. Bless their hearts!
