Upcoming travels

Postby rockyrock » Mon Aug 10, 2015 9:07 am

I just booked three tix from LAX to HNL and it set me back about $1800. I have to book the flights separately as my wife and daughter will be staying longer. I booked their flights directly though United website and used my AT&T card for 3x TY points. I booked mine through Amex travel because I had an Amex offer for $100 off. With the fees Amex charges I came out about $85 ahead with is better than the 1800 TY points I would have gotten.

One way I did screw myself was I accidentally saved the offer to my BCP card instead of my PRG. I would much rather have had 1200 MR versus the 1% I got from the BCP. I probably could have called Amex and had the offer switched but I didn't feel like doing battle with the Sunday reps... Maybe I'll call today and ask them to shift the offer and payment for my flight over to my PRG--can't hurt to try.

I still have to book the rental car which so far looks like booking and prepaying direct through Alamo is by far the cheapest. I'll give a portal a shot to get to the Alamo site.
Sapphire Reserve: travel & dining

I'd be curious to hear the experiences of anyone that has used Discover rewards to get car rental gift cards.

i feel like more people need to give discover a chance. when talking with friends about cc's, everyone always poo poos discover because of their limited (by comparison) merchant base. i wish more people would get on board with discover because its offers usually are pretty sweet.
