Maximizing Chase Freedom Points w/out CSP

Postby Whatamuji » Tue Aug 04, 2015 9:38 am

I was wondering whats the best way to make use of my Chase Freedom points without having the CSP? I noticed that the price for gift cards was pretty high with all of them starting at 2500 points (Chase Amazon card has them starting at 1850). And I'm unsure about the travel redemption because everytime I try to book a hotel with UR, the page always times out. Is statement credit essentially my best option without the CSP?
Kohls: $300, Discover IT: $1.8k, Capital One Quicksilver: $2k, Amazon Store Card: $2.2k, BoA Cash Rewards: 1k, Chase Freedom: 3.2k, AMEX HHonors 3k

If you're at all considering a CSP, I really urge you to wait. I wasted some Freedom URs in my pre-CSP days.

Think of it this way: If there's a 50% chance you'll get a CSP within a few years, then you have a 50% chance of (probably) getting a much better return via point transfers, and a 50% chance of just losing a little of the cash's value to inflation.

But yes, cash is probably the best way to go. The selection of discounted gift cards is very limited.
Keeping indefinitely: IHG, SchwabPlat, CSP, Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE, Hyatt
May close or PC: Prestige, Arrival, BrooksBros
AA Platinum converting into Costco

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech
Letting new accounts cool off since May

Okay then I'll just store the UR's up till I get the CSP in a couple of years.

I stored them up for 2 years. We had almost 150,000 points when I went to use them, so we paid for our tickets to Italy. The 20% CSP travel bonus turned into an extra $300. You won't find that money outside of signup bonuses.

No, just not very clear. I edited it to make it more clear. The $300 came from the 20% bonus on redeeming for travel.
