Capital One Forced Change of Card

Postby TrustMe » Sun Jul 12, 2015 5:33 am

I have received a notice from Capital One that they are cancelling my Venture Card as of 8/31 and issuing me a Money Market Rewards Card. And that my Venture rewards will stop accumulating 8/31 and have to be used by January 16, this also applies to the rewards on my money market account. On the telephone, they have told me that all Venture Travel Rewards cards are being cancelled, but this appears not to be true. I was told on the telephone that the program was being cancelled because most card holders did not know they had the benefits and were not using them. This sounded somewhat disingenuous to me. I pay my bill of in full every month and accumulated about 4k worth of travel benefits. The constant advertising for this card say "rewards never expire".

Any comments on this?

That's incredibly odd and I have never heard of this nor have I received any warning from CapOne.

I find it odd that in the last three days, this card hasn't been the topic of discussion at Venture/CO-loving MF.

A card with "Money Market" in the name sounds more like a debit card than a credit card.

What country do you live in, TrustMe? Have you been doing anything unusual with the card - either not using it at all or using it in some unusual way?

*I just got an ad in the mail from them - this time for a no-AF Platinum. Capital One is really phoning it in!
Very useful: SchwabPlat, CSP, IHG, Costco (was AA Plat), Freedom, SPG, Prestige (retention)
Somewhat useful: Discover, ED (was EDP), BCE, Hyatt
SD with activity alerts, might close: Arrival

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech, BofA Travel PH, Aviator Red
