That low cpp value only applies if someone is trying to get pure cash back from the Arrival. For any $25+ travel statement credits, the cpp value is fixed. Sure, it's possible to redeem Arrival "miles" poorly for cash back, but you can do equally dumb things with Amex MRs.

And the point value on any travel redemption still beats what most people will get at Hilton, IHG, or Marriott.

I don't think the Arrival+ is worth the AF in the long run, and I don't use my no-AF Arrival much. I agree the cards aren't that special, and URs and MRs can be used more productively, but it's not fair to say that the Arrival "mile" valuation is the worst of all reward currencies.

At the end of the day, it's all opinion. TPG may be regarded as "the source" for point valuations but it really doesn't matter. What matters is what benefits YOU and what redemptions YOU can make use out of. If he says you get the most bang out of an IHG card but never stay at IHG, then who cares?

The point is that the debates about which points/miles are the "best value" can go on forever because "best" is subjective and what you use it for will vary from person to person. I don't believe in any "expert" being able to declare what the "best" is because what is best for him is not always best for you.

Anyway, all that said, I think the Arrival+ is pretty much worthless for most people...if you are spending enough to make 2.1% with an AF worthwhile over the 2% Double Cash, you are indeed spending a TON of money, so much that seriously an extra 0.1% should be peanuts to you.

Perhaps Barclaycard should take a page out of Cap One's playbook...

Some Venture (and possibly Venture One) cards are being issued in metal. Barclaycard could issue metal Arrival+ cards.

Sure, it doesn't improve the card's value. It could help them attract and keep people who are less focused on value, though.

It would help it compete with the CSP in more than one area. I love handing my CSP to people and watching the double take as they react to its weight.

Maybe CO or Barclaycard should try to make their cards even heavier than Chase's Ritz. :ppp

I've had a few fellow diners/travelers comment on CSP, but for all the merchants, it seems pretty blasé.
