Which card should I be using?

Postby theonehark » Fri May 29, 2015 2:49 pm

About me:
High spender ( about 10-15k a month on credit cards, mostly on restaurants and shopping )
Travel frequently, about 10x a year. Mostly domestic US via American Airlines.
Typically I stay in Starwood hotels when I travel, but wont if they are overpriced. I will never hit platinum status with them as it requires 18 stays a year.

The cards I have:
SPG Preferred
Citi Double Cash
Chase Freedom
Chase Sapphire Preferred
Amex Hilton HHonors
Amazon Visa (use this with amazon only)

Currently I have been using either the SPG and CSP exclusively. Should I be using the Citi Double cash now though?

Perhaps a Citi AA card for free checked bags?

I've not looked closely at the cent-per-point value of AA miles or the value of elite status, so I can't really say how suitable it would be for everyday spending.

What do you do with your rewards from Chase - convert them to BA Avios and then access AA flights?
Wallet: Prestige CSP SchwabPlat Freedom It Hyatt SallieMae AAPlat
SD: Arrival BrooksBros BCE ED IHG
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

Depends on how you redeem your UR points which is why the prior post has the question in it. You should be able to do the math to determine if you're getting better than 2% with your UR redemptions or not but we would need more info to help you out with that.

I think you are doing well with those two cards. Assuming you use the Hilton card ONLY at Hilton properties and Freedom for 5% cats. I value the Starpoints almost higher than any other programs you have simply due to the transferability and bonus. CSP for all 2x & 3x cats and SPG for everything else not already listed. DC is a good alternative and you can't beat the versatility of CB, so you would still be doing well with 2%. Seeing how you stay at Starwood properties the Starpoints are where it's at.

YMMV of course.
