Must I cancel my old AMEX card to get Delta Skymiles bonus

Postby beelaker » Sun Mar 08, 2015 3:51 am

Delta Skymiles rewards card from Amex states that the introductory bonus may not be available to current AMEX cardholders. Should I cancel my old Barclays/ Travelocity AMEX card (which I seldom use)
before applying for the Delta one to ensure that I reap the 30,000 miles?

The Travelocity card (issued by Barclaycard) doesn't affect your eligibility for any bonus on a card issued by American Express. I'd keep it open. The only risk I see in keeping it open is that Amex might think you already have too much available credit relative to your income, and I'd say it's a pretty small risk for most people. You don't give enough information for me to guess whether it could be a problem for you or not.
