A cash and points-based travel search engine?

Postby CarefulBuilder14 » Thu Jan 22, 2015 6:43 pm

Does anyone know of an air travel (or hotel, for that matter) search engine that lets you compare cash prices as well as loyalty point prices across multiple airlines?

For example, Travelocity will give me the cash price of a ticket on both United and Virgin. United.com will give me the price in cash and United Miles for a United flight. Virginamerica.com will give me price in cash and in Elevate points for a Virgin flight.

But is there a website that will let me see — all at the same time — the price in Elevate points for a Virgin flight and the price in Miles for a comparable United flight (as well as their cash prices)?

Not that I know of, and this is something that I would find super useful! There have been so many times I'm trying to plan out a multi-stop itinerary, and I've got six different windows open and a piece of paper full of scribbles, trying to figure out which of my programs will get me a free ticket.

I'm wondering if an enterprising start-up could even provide such a service, or if the airlines would refuse to allow it. Although most of them allow Kayak, which lets people compare their prices with other's so I'm not sure what the big deal would be about letting people compare the cost in points/miles.

-Capital One Quicksilver
-Barclaycard Arrival (no AF)
- US Bank (no rewards)
-IHG

I doubt any exists - not just for airlines but for hotels as well. Point systems are often proprietary and only available when you book through the vendor's "direct channels", both of which means that aggregators would not have access to them. There is also the fact that if you use points, the aggregator wouldn't get a commission, so they have no incentive to even try to provide that data.

UsingMiles.com seems to be one, but they charge a $30/year fee to access that feature, and I don't know how well it even works.
