Pleasant surprise: Barclaycard Arrival counts Car2Go as travel

Postby kcm7 » Tue Dec 30, 2014 10:40 am

I have the Arrival, and it's always a guess on what exactly will be considered a "travel" expense for bonus points. And I imagine that's always the case with cards that have bonus categories (which depend on how the purchase is coded).

I've had hostel-booking sites NOT count as travel purchases, for example, and had some theme/water parks/roadside attractions count as travel, but not others.

Anyway, I recently started using one of those smart-car rental services (Car2Go). And it turns out, they count as a travel purchase for double points. Woohoo! Wasn't expecting that. :D

Have you ever had a purchase unexpectedly get you bonus points? Or bought something you were SURE would count for a bonus category, but didn't?
Cards:

-Capital One Quicksilver
-Barclaycard Arrival (no AF)
- US Bank (no rewards)
-IHG

Yeah, it's pretty much the same thing. For whatever reason, my city went for C2G instead of Zip car.

Happy that one of my pretty regular expenses is unexpectedly getting me double points.

I was pretty shocked to learn that Amazon Kindle e-books are classified as purchases from a record store - not a bookstore.

I suppose I could use my Sallie Mae to get electronic Amazon gift cards, and then use those cards to buy Kindle books.
Wallet: Prestige CSP SchwabPlat Freedom It Hyatt SallieMae AAPlat
SD: Arrival BrooksBros BCE ED IHG
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when
