Shop Through Chase / Ultimate Rewards Mall Problems

Postby wiivile » Thu Nov 06, 2014 11:26 am

This topic applies specifically to Chase's "Ultimate Rewards Mall" or "Shop Through Chase", but it can be a discussion on all of them (Discover's, Citi's, Etc.)

I find two major issues with this program that have prevented me from using it repeatedly:

1) Coupon codes (unless explicitly listed on chase.com) cannot be used, or else you'll lose eligibility for the extra points. This severely limits usability, as many online retailers have 10% coupons or something that are way more valuable than the extra points.

2) Many points just never show up. It's happened three times in the past year where I've had to contact chase.com and they have to manually issue the points. Once with Home Depot and once with Hotels.com. It's not very reliable - usually it takes several weeks for you to be notified that you've received extra points. If you never receive that email, it's probably been so long since your purchase that you will forget to follow up with Chase.

I use the FIA/Bank of America points mall and have found it to be pretty reliable. However, like you said, you do have to watch for the points, and it's annoying. You should be able to get the coupon discount and the points, I agree, but pick one appears to be your only option.

If you use a shopping mall faithfully and keep up to make sure you're properly credited, it can add up to significant cash back/points.

I bought a Weber grill at Lowe's.com through this portal for extra 5%, used 10% coupon on site... Got 10% UR and 10% off the grill. Go figure!

Discover always sends an email after you've made a Shop Discover purchase (but not immediately) so you always know if they caught the extra cash back or not.

They still have not fixed this program. 90% of the time I have to message customer service to receive the bonus points from Shop Through Chase. And like was said, they ask you to wait 60 days from the purchase to see if you are credited with the points. Way too much of a hassle for something that should be automated.
