Which recent nerfing irritates you the most?

Postby CarefulBuilder14 » Thu Oct 23, 2014 9:07 pm

A lot of cards have had rewards or benefits reduced in one way or another lately.

For example:
PRG lost the 15,000 MR for $30k spending bonus.
Other Amex cards had roadside assistance benefits cut.
CSP and Freedom are losing the 7% and 10% point dividends.
US Bank Cash+ is moving dining from two 5% categories to (I think) one 2% category.

I'm sure there are others.

Which one bothers you the most? For me, it's still the roadside assistance cut that makes a PC to Gold less appealing than closing the card.

What matters me is Chase Freedom cutting the annual 10% dividend. This was one of the reasons I applied for Freedom so what I get would be 1.1% - 5.5% compared to Discover's 1% - 5%.

Citi Forward will no longer provide lost cell phone protection benefit, but I barely use my Forward to pay for my phone bill, so I am pretty much ineligible for this already.

Chase Freedom Visa Signature $7000 6/2014 | Citi ThankYou Premier Visa Signature $5000 1/2015
All EMV.

For me, it's the Cash+ no longer being a 5% restaurant card. I don't care about losing 7% of my annual points so much on the CSP or 10% on the Freedom; these got me a couple thousand points annually at best. But not having a 5% restaurant card is a huge deal to me, since I eat out every night.

Not really anything except the Chase Freedom's benefits getting watered down. Before that, that card was the one I had wanted from Chase originally. That's one big reason why I just went with their AARP card instead. PRG nerfing also made me rethink what cards I wanted to get in the future and have just attracted me to the BCE more in January and closing my green card today.

Do you have to get a (paid) AARP membership to qualify for that card, popamode?

I can't find it out from the Internet. Their side just simply says "Designed exclusively for AARP members" before the application, and AARP Membership Number is not a required field while in the application. Googled and didn't get something useful.

Not at all. It didn't even require any AARP number to filled in. It took about a week of verification before I was approved recently. If you're already in with Chase, I don't think you'd have a problem at all getting it. I chose the version where you get 3x on gas and restaurants with no cap.

I'm not aware of CO nerfing its cards, so they might be unusual in that respect.

Or maybe the Venture cards have been changed in one way or another before?

I think the Chase nerfs bother me the most. I have a Freedom and a CSP which both took a hit. Plus I have bank accounts with Chase.

They're still a pretty dynamic duo though.
