Maximizing rewards

Postby lc1125 » Sun Oct 12, 2014 6:01 pm

After reading on this forum I have gone on a bit of an app spree. I started with an AAdvantage Citi MasterCard, which I have had for almost 8 years now. I don't fly near as much anymore, but want to keep enough on that card to keep it, and my frequent flyer account, active. I also have: Discover It, and just got approved for Amex Blue Card Preferred and Capital One Quicksilver. Any idea how I can best use these cards to maximize rewards?
Citi AAdvantage Bronze MC | 2007 | $5,300
Discover It | 09/2014 | $6,500 | 5% categories, shopdiscover purchases
Amex BCP | 10/2014 | $10,300 | groceries and gas
CapitalOne Quicksilver | 10/2014 | $10,000 | every day card
Kohl's | 2012 | $1,000
Victoria's Secret | 10/2014 | $750

Credit Karma | 713 (10/13/2014) | TU (Discover) | 758 (10/5/2014)

Presumably you mean Amex Blue Cash Preferred, as the Amex website doesn't list a Blue Preferred unless it is the Cash or Sky variant. Amex BCP is good for gas and groceries. The special deals on the Amex website are worth checking occasionally.

Sign up for a free ShopRunner.com membership (a perk for all Amex cards). That will give you free 2-day shipping on many websites.

Discover is great for 5% categories. ShopDiscover will give you a lot of bonus cash back, too.

Really not sure what I'll add next or when

Yes, I meant Blue Cash Preferred! Was typing too fast :) . So I am thinking I will use my Discover for the 5% categories, along with the shopdiscover deals. The amex for groceries and gas (except when gas is a 5% category on Discover) and then the Quicksilver for everything else? Does that sound right?
