Best cards for bonus spend/shopping portal bonus?

Postby freyj6 » Sun Oct 05, 2014 11:46 am

These aren't listed on the perks, so it's hard to tell which cards have useful bonus offers and good shopping portal access.

For myself, I've seen some pretty good offers on the Amex Blue Cash Preferred, like $20 off Amazon, etc. The Arrival Plus used to have a great shopping portal on Amex gift cards as well.

I've heard Discover IT has a great shopping portal, and that Sallie Mae sometimes offers 7% back for bonus spending.

What have you guys seen? What cards are better than they first appear?

Discover It is the best when it comes to online shopping discounts. They almost always beat the chase online rewards mall in cashback

Discover is usually pretty good as far as providing some basic, regular discount. Definitely look around, though. Also, some of Discover's savings don't apply to already-discounted items.

Some sites also give free shipping on large orders, but ShopRunner through Amex comes handy, too.

The offers change over time so I'm not sure a generalization about the portals is really all that meaningful.

I found the AmEx $20 of $20 at Amazon offer useful but my wife only got $10 off $10. I've also taken advantage of AmEx's offers on iTunes, Petsmart, wireless phone bills and Whole Foods -- about $70 this year so far.

I've used ShopDiscover, the UR portal and the MileagePlus portal. Usefulness for me really just depends on the current offers.
