Freedom - 4th Quarter Amazon - Gas

Postby TheSwarm » Mon Sep 22, 2014 11:55 pm

Hello all,

The quarter is coming to an end, and we will begin the department store / amazon quarter soon. Since I can definitely spend $1,500 on gas per quarter, but don't know if I would utilize the department stores I have a question.

Can I use my Chase Freedom to load some sort of prepaid debit card through amazon that I would then use to purchase gas with?

That way I can max out my $1,500 for the quarter through amazon and get 5%.

Also, lets just say for instance I need to buy a christmas present for my girlfriend from Macy's. And it just so happens Macy's is on the Chase Ultimate Rewards mall and gives 5 extra points / dollar spent through the UR mall. Do I get the 5 extra points / dollar plus the 5% category spend if I haven't maxed it out?

Thanks.

Yes, the UR mall bonus is additional.

You might want to consider a card that offers rewards on gas year round then.

I'll consider it, but for now are there any work arounds to get a prepaid (debit card) through a vendor that will help me max my 5% on the freedom for the quarter?

For instance could I load something like this through amazon with the Chase Freedom and use it to pay for my normal expenses?

I literally spent quite a bit in 7-eleven grocery stores so it would qualify as gas.
Citi Forward Visa $5000 10/2012 | American Express Blue Cash Everyday $8000 2/2014 | Discover it $7000 5/2014
Chase Freedom Visa Signature $7000 6/2014 | Citi ThankYou Premier Visa Signature $5000 1/2015
All EMV.

Yes. Keep in mind that some places will reject use of a credit card because of the amount of scamming that goes on with prepaids. But, just go to local CVS, Walgreens, grocery store, etc and try it on your own. If one store is anal, go to the next one. All depends on the morons who work there.

I don't think any of those stores are on the "select department stores" list for the Chase Freedom 4th quarter. I think it's just

Amazon
Sears
Macy's
JC Penny
Kohls

and a bunch others that I've never heard of. They specifically exclude WalMart, Target, electronics stores, discount stores, and warehouse type stores (Costco, etc.)

They also specifically exclude gift cards except those purchased at the select department stores. So I'm thinking Amazon would work, but I'm wondering if anyone else has any experience with this.

Yea, sorry about that. I was just letting you know you can buy prepaid cards with credit if you need to.

Looks like you can register to get the card online on Amazon, but you won't be able to load it online through Amazon with a credit card. You're just basically applying for the prepaid card and it says in the bottom when the permanent card arrives, it will come with 0 balance until loaded WITH CASH in select retail locations.
