Question about Citi AAdvantage MC

Postby CCRider » Fri Jul 04, 2014 12:24 pm

Hey guys - just joined today and have a question about my American Airlines card I hope someone can answer. I got the Citi AAdvantage MC Gold back in 2011 just to get the 30K mile offer available at the time. The annual fee was waived in year one but I called to cancel it when it came time for the fee to hit the next year. The rep talked me into a downgrade to the Bronze version since it had no annual fee and would still allow me to keep my AA miles from expiring by making a charge once a year. My question is that I've received a pre-approved offer for 50k miles in the mail for both the Citi AA Platinum Select consumer and business card versions. Does anyone know if Citi would actually let me get the bonus miles again since I still have the Bronze card? I've heard that banks won't allow you to get a bonus offer if you've had the same reward card in the past and I don't want to ding the credit bureau if I'm not going to get the miles.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't think so.

According to their website "Citi® / AAdvantage® card offer is only valid for new applicants for a Citi® / AAdvantage® account made pursuant to this offer and is not available to existing cardmembers or recent applicants for a Citi® / AAdvantage® credit card."
My Cards:

Discover It - $8,450 (9/13)
BankAmericard Cash Rewards Visa Signature - $5,000 (4/14)
Chase Freedom - $3,000 (5/14)
AMEX Hilton HHonors - $16,500 (6/14)

That's what I suspected - thanks. You would think they would scrub their direct mail list of people that already had the AAdvantage card - seems like a waste of money and a bad customer experience to solicit someone and then deny them the bonus miles.
