Q. What types of merchants are in the restaurants category?
A. Merchants in the restaurants category are merchants whose primary business is sit-down or eat-in dining, including fast food restaurants as well as fine dining establishments. Please note that some merchants that sell food and drinks located within larger merchants such as sports stadiums, hotels and casinos, theme parks, and department stores may not be included in this category.

I would be so incredibly happy if a card had a 5% category for clothing! Or perhaps that would just land me in trouble.
Cards:

-Capital One Quicksilver
-Barclaycard Arrival (no AF)
- US Bank (no rewards)
-IHG

Agreed! I guess the only problem is that the bonus categories are based on merchant codes, and they'd probably cut out Target (like they do for the grocery category), which is where most of my clothes come from.

The US Bank Cash+ card lets you choose two 5% categories every quarter. One of the options is department stores. I just found out that the Amex Blue Cash Preferred card offers 3% on department stores too.

I use Discover for that. You have to buy online, but ShopDiscover usually has 5% or more in most major stores. I do wish they had a general clothes and shoes category though!

I don't smoke, but a 5% cashback category for cigarettes would be really beneficial to smokers. Somebody should come up with a card that combines the 5% cashback for cigarettes and liquor stores. What would you call that? A Vice Card?

Great Idea, but for now you should buy all liquor at grocery store.

For major brands of beer and liquor that can be found just about anywhere, that is practical. For wine, grocery stores often have a limited selection. A grocery store may offer a particular wine (the same brand, grape variety, and year) for a lower price than a liquor store, but at that same price level, a liquor store may offer a better-tasting but lesser-known option.

Didn't have time to read the entire thread and see if anybody suggested this, but you could give this a shot...

Lets say you've got a Freedom with 5% back at gas stations. Go to a gas station, drop 500 bucks on a Visa gift card, earn 5% on it, which nets you 19 dollars after the 6 dollar activation fee. That makes it a 3.8% reward on a card you can use absolutely anywhere you want.
FICO TU - 728 - 8/14
FICO EX - 716 - 7/14
FICO EQ - 740 - 7/14

Bank of America Cash Rewards - $2,400
Best Buy - $3,000
American Express Blue Cash Everyday - $8,000
American Express Everyday - $10,000
Discover It Chrome - $500 (AU on fiancée's card, helping her build credit)
American Express Platinum - NPSL
Barclaycard Arrival+ - $3,000
Capital One Yamacard - $11,000
