    Default BP gas station boycott?

    Are you considering a BP gas station boycott? I'm surprised we haven't heard more about this in the news. At the very least you would think there would be more talk of large scale boycotts of BP gas stations in the Gulf Coast area.

    Personally I don't feel a boycott will do much good. I assume most BP gas stations are franchises owned by individuals. My guess would be they would be the ones hurt far more than BP would be in a boycott. Then again, I could be wrong and maybe there are some stations that are corporate-owned.
    Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

    most if not all stations are franchises. Their operators' margins are razor thin.

    HOWEVER, a boycott of BP stations and any BP-branded products is pretty much the only way to suggest to one of the largest oil companies in the world that its destruction of the Gulf of Mexico is not acceptable -- and to also suggest to the world's oil industry that it will not be tolerated in the future.

    So, go ahead and boycott, I say. No BP stations in my area -- or in New Orleans (I checked).

    I feel sorry for the station owners, but I feel more sorry for the oil-covered sea birds.

    Jesse Jackson is in the Gulf leading a boycott of BP. Boycott will do nothing. 90% are franchise. At most it makes the boycotter feel that they are doing something. Oh that's right foreign countries aren't going to buy BP Crude.

    I heard last night that the US government gets more fuel from BP than any other company. For an effective boycott the government would need to do it too.

    Many drivers in California don't even realize Arco is owned by BP so they are buying BP gas, even if they aren't intending to do so.

    Yeah, this situation is a lot different.

    Are you going to boycott BP and give your money to the biggest gas giant, Exxon? Or Shell? They're all the same. They had the same regulations, the all have done the same loop holes, they're all snakes. IMO.

    So, I figure it's futile to do so. But this did, even more, bring the light to our eyes to research for alternative energy solutions.

    I have a friend who is making a website called and is gonna try and get it to rank on google so any time someone searches for anything related to oil spills it will show up next to bp and give more bad rep.
