Angry Free annual credit reports deliberately tedious?

I was wondering if anyone has had problems getting their annual free credit reports. The last two years when I've tried to get a "free" report, usually 1 of the 3 bureaus works fine, and the other two try and make my jump through hoops by either mailing in a sign affidavit or "verifying" my identity by paying for their service, and being able to see my report instantly. Has anyone else experienced this? I would like to know how this can possibly be legal because they obviously are trying to discourage you from getting a free report, and instead trying to use the opportunity to reel in new paying customers. The whole thing pisses me off. I haven't checked mine the last 12 months because I can only predict what will happen... again.

Had the same thing happen. I haven't done it in over a year so I'm now due for my free (haha!) credit report. I'll probably do it this weekend I'll let you know what happens.

It is a good idea, to at least once order a paper copy of your credit report. At that time be sure to send in a copy of drivers license proving identity. Once that is done you should not have any further problems getting electronic copies of the credit report.
