Default CC newbie trying to increase limit

I have a visa which is my only card and I have had for just over a year. Besides this card I have pretty much no record. I have never missed a payment, in fact I've always payed early and in full. My limit is $600 which I have never exceeded but often get close to. I've asked card member services if raising my limit would incur a "hard check" and it would so I'm a bit nervous about going through with the process. Am I being silly? Is it too soon too seek an increase?

I also read an article (which is what brought me here) that says I should ask to speak to the department that handles credit limit and plead my case. If this is what I should do how much of an increase should I ask for? I have no sense of what is reasonable or crazy.

I apprciate any advice you could offer me.

Do not pay in full and do not pre-pay. This account is always zero and not reporting any activity.
Request for a credit limit increase does not guarantee a hard pull. If you have a capital one card do not bother.
Ask for up to 400, if that don't work apply for a new card here and stop freaking out

I did not realize that about prepaying. Thanks!

My card would do a hard pull. I called and asked specifically.
