Default Can you upgrade credit cards? Or do I need to apply for new?

    Hello forum!

I'm not even close to being a credit/charge card guru as many of you guys. I read a lot, most of the time here, which means every single one of you have helped me to build a decent credit score... thanks!!!

    I currently have:
    • Express, CL $1,000 opened 2 years and 2 months years ago
    • Capital One Platinum, CL $2,000 opened 1 year and 9 months ago
    • Discover More, CL $2,600 opened 8 months ago
    • AMEX Gold, opened 4 months ago... the most I've put on it in a month is $4,800 w/o a problem.
    • Car loan to be completely paid next month!
Credit Score according to identity guard as of 12/01/2011
    • Equifax 685
    • Experian 707
    • TransUnion 688
I've been carrying a balance on the 3 credit cards so my scores might get better in a month or 2 when I'm done paying them off.
    • My income is about 40k a year plus bonus (2,000-4,000)
I'm obsessed with rewards cards, specially the ones with travel rewards, which is why I applied for the AMEX gold, have a question about this one too.

I really want to upgrade my credit cards to better ones, lets say: CapOne Platinum to Venture (the blue one) and Discover More to Escape since I love the idea of getting 2x points on every purchase. The reason I want to upgrade, instead of opening new accounts, is because I don't want to cancel them since it may affect my credit history.

Are there any possibilities for this to happen? any of those banks upgrading my cards/ transferring credit history? If not, with my scores and income, which CC do you recommend?

    About AMEX Gold:
    • They wont honor double points on airfare through JetBlue, anything I can do?
    • They wont honor the 10,000 points for spending 1,000 in three month, anything I can do? Why? because I have the regular Gold card and not the preferred or something like, but I do remember seeing the offer everywhere.
I know this is to much but I really appreciate your help and hopefully others may benefit from your answers, THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!!!

Your Capital 1 has been opened long enough you can ask for an upgrade. Call, don't write. Your Discover is still too new. You need to wait until the 13th month before they can make a change to an account. The one thing I see in your credit profile that would prevent it, is your credit history is rather short, only a little over 2 years. Your first major credit card looks like Capital 1.

As far as your 10,000 points, unless you have it in writing (email or postal mail) they won't do anything. I don't ever fly JetBlue so I can't help you there. The key to excellent credit is showing you have an established, payment history of paying on time, more than your minimum, and you don't max out credit cards. Someone who has been using a credit card for 20 years versus someone who is rather new to credit, who would you be willing to loan $20,000? Good luck!

Thanks Platinum, I'll try CapOne and see what I get from them.

Too bad I tossed my, like 20 lol, AMEX gold card invitations. I guess there's nothing I can do about those points.
    thanks again!
