Why would anyone PAY for credit monitoring or getting scores. You can do it for free using creditkarma and ground that with an actual credit report from each credit bureau for free once a year. You can also get your FICO score free once a year.

I've used creditkarma for a couple of years now and have compared it to actual credit reports a couple of times. Their service is very accurate.

That's been my experience as well. The score I get from the free site is a little lower, by 10-30 points. But it's close enough to get a good read of where you are. Your "true" score can vary by quite a bit on a daily basis depending on where you are in the reporting cycle for your cards so I don't think the difference matters that much.

I have actually tried the Discover Credit score monitoring service and have been pretty happy with it. I pay $9.99 per month and receive a 3 Bureau, once per month, score and report. However, they also offer an Experian score and report that one can update every 24 hours.

I currently have been trying out the myFICO.com free trial, with a Equifax report and score - have been extremely impressed with the Score Watch. I am a sucker for design and simplicity .

P.S. In all honesty I believe that there should be a standardized means of evaluating credit worthiness.

I'm using equifax.com and paying about 159 a year for unlimited access to my equifax score and report and I get a discount for the other bureaus. I think I'm going to try Discover. That sounds like a better deal.
