Default Citi to start trolling for more CC customers

WSJ article today (9/20/11) says Citi is done licking its wounds from CC losses suffered during the last meltdown and is in the hunt for more customers to catch up with Chase, et al. Company is mounting a major mailbox blitz, WSJ said.

If you get a come-on and happen to want a Citi card, I suggest calling them up and making them work for your business. The article did make the point that the bank is trying to target affluent revolvers. So if you have a really low credit score or don't revolve, which in both cases makes you a "deadbeat," you might not be hearing from Citi.

Same article made point that Citi, Chase and others are trying to steer customers to credit from debit because of recent fee caps on debit transactions.

CapitalOne: No Hassle Rewards (no foreign transaction fee, my only MasterCard, not in use)
Amex: Blue Cash Everyday (not in use)
Discover: More (only for 5% reward categories)

I have received applications for about 5 different cards 5 times each. I'm not familiar with how they do business. I thought about applying for the Dividend Platinum Select card. Do you have any info on them?

I applied for citi platinum select card as well, and my application process online told me that it needs more time to process my information, which according to some users of this forum said that I now have just 3% chance of getting approved.

Funny, I just received an offer in the mail today for the Simplicity with a cash bonus. It's a card namely for balance transfers and those who pay late. I fall under neither category.

When my renewal comes up in a couple months on my ThankYou Premier I will see if I can wrangle something like extra points or better yet, the fee waived for another year.

Given that Citi is following in Bank of America's footsteps with the debit card fees, they probably won't have to work too hard to pick up new credit card users.
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

    Current Cards:
American Express: Blue Cash, Simply Cash Bank of America: WorldPoints Platinum Plus Chase: Amazon, British Airways, Cash Plus Rewards, Freedom, Ink Cash Citi: Thank You Premier, Dividend Platinum Select Discover: More
Primary Everyday Card: American Express Blue Cash
Primary Travel Card: Citi Thank You Premier

I have been using Citi for many years and so far I have complain so with their new effort to get more CC customers, I think they will get it, not unless the other will follow with better offers.
