Thread: How to get approved with no credit but high income?

Howdy y'all,

I am new here so hi. :-)

One issue I've run into is... I've made a lot of money but credit card companies will not accept my applications.

I have been fairly successful at my young age, pulled in nearly $100k before 18 and make $64k/year now PT at 18. No matter of how much I view myself as not a risk, I feel credit card companies view me as a risk or view me as some young adult that feels they can pull a quick one and lie about their income. What are some ways to get a higher-than-normal credit line with limited credit such as myself? I have a stash of money in my Citibank savings account, however Citibank said that plays little on whether or not your application will be accepted.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Do you go to college at all? Have you even applied for a CC yet? If so, which one(s)? Have you called and asked to be reconsidered for the card(s)?

I know a vast majority of CC applications are processed automatically. No one, I stress no one, get approved for a CC from the store I work at. Most will automatically decline if there is no history of credit. However, if you take the time to call and talk to a representative you will usually be approved, especially with a good job.

If you are absolutely unable to be approved for an unsecured CC, even from Capital One, you can always get a secured card. Since, you seem to have some $$ socked away, you would be able to get a good limit. If you do this, make sure that the card reports to all 3 credit bureaus.


A good credit score takes years and years to build, especially with this cautious economy.

I agree with you Zapper, it sound like you can afford a secure card with high limit without any problem. What you were told by citi is not always true, if you talk to the right manager it can be done but it will depend on your defination of stash.

That is a bad ass card for a secured account, I didn't even know that was out there.

You better believe this is a good card. I applied for this card a while back and love everything about it. No AF, Interest 19% (was 9.9% but now i am at 14.99), 2% cash back, Recurring Payment option not offered by some major cards so you will miss a payment.
The only drawback about this card now is the credit limit increase option that is no longer available online, i use to apply every 6 months and automatically get 500-1000.
