Unhappy Why can't I get approved for a credit card?

I was turned down for a Chase Freedom Visa card with a 744 TU/746 EX/775 EQ, no deliquents, and 3 current credit cards. They told me that my cards didn't really count since 2 are department store and 1 is piggybacked on my parents even though I've had it since 2001. How does a recent grad with a steady job and no loans (in the USA) get a credit card in this country? I want to make use of some cashback rewards. I don't plan on carrying a balance, ever. I used to have a card in Canada in college and paid it off every month.

Is there a rewards card that isn't so picky about how I got my good credit score? And will I now have to wait a few months before I apply for another card since I was just rejected?

    Capital*One Cash Rewards for Newcomers

Your score is good but it's not the only thing banks look at. If you don't have enough history (here), which sounds like your problem, then Capital One has a card for people new to the USA. Take a look, eh?

There's no reason why you shouldnt have got that card IMO, you should try calling them and reconing it.

No creditor in the U.S. cares what you did in Canada.

Msy I understand why you were turned down. you have 3 cards,1 is in your parents name. since you don't pay the bill, chase doesn't count that. if your dad has an American express platinum which he uses for business and American express sent him a application to add you to his account then, they would take in consideration you having a card that's under your parents. so would chase if your parents have this card and they want to add, you chase would take this in consideration.

the 2 other cards you have are charge cards meaning you can only use them at that department store, the other store that's the same company and if there's an outlet you can use it there. For that reason Chase doesn't count those cards as being real cards. that's why you got turned down.

What I would do If I were you is ask your dad if he can go to the bank with you and talk to the branch employee and see if he can co-sign or come up with some ideas about getting you approved for a credit card.
