Default Citi Thank You Preferred or AMEX Blue Sky?

I was going to apply for a Citi Thank You Preferred Card because I like the 6,000 bonus points for spending $300 in 90 days and the 5x points for gas purchases for a year. However, I received an offer in the mail from AMEX for the Blue Sky for 22,500 points for spending $300 in 90 days. Both offers seem great but I don't really travel so any points earned with the AMEX would go for gift cards. What do you guys think is a better offer?

Hmmm... Don't take my word for it because I'm kind of new to this whole credit thing but I'd go with the Amex blue sky. But then again you said you don't travel much so I'm not sure.. But if you don't mind me asking, what kind of credit score do you have?

I am also kind of new to credit cards, only been 3 years since i got my first but I've always been on top of them so my credit score should be good.

No i haven't. Another factor going into my decision is the amount of credit i would be given. I heard AMEX starts you out low, is this true?

First of all what credit cards do you now carry? If you have both a Visa and American express I would go with the Citi. just curious what's the points to dollar ratio? I believe with the Citi you get a concierge and a year end summary of all your charges. if that's the case I would get the citi. If you don't travel why do you want the blue sky?

I have a Visa and a Mastercard. For the Citi card it 1 point per $ but 5x for gas, groceries and drugstores for first year. For the AMEX its 1 point per $

The 1 I'm thinking of is the Citi thank you premire which has an annual fee of 125 waved the first year. that comes with a free round trip ticket when you pay for 1, U.S. only. I believe you get the other 2 the concierege and a year end summary.
I think the card your thinking of is just the basic no annual fee 1point for every dollar, gas and grocerys are different.
Again if you don't travel why would you be thinking about Blue sky card? If you don't have an American express card and you don't travel what do you think about Blue, Bluecash or the Clear card?

The Citi ThankYou Preferred in the long run will give you points worth 1 cent or less each, meaning your rewards will be up to 1%. On the other hand with Blue Sky you are averaging 1.33% since 7,500 points = $100.00 in travel. Therefore when you exclude the signup bonuses the Amex will be the better choice. Here is CCF's AmEx Blue Sky card review if you want more info. For the other, here is the review of the Citi Thank You Preferred card with both of the current promotions.
