Default Want to cancel new credit card, without affecting my credit?

So I was just approved for a new AMEX Gold Card, however after reading numerous post about if it would improve my credit score, I have come to the conclusion it will not. I would instead like to apply for a Credit Card such as a Signature Visa, instead of a Charge card. Here is my issue. Can I cancel the AMEX card before it arrives without affecting my Credit? If I apply for a new Credit Card will I be denied due to the Hard Pull from AMEX? Any suggestions?

Sorry but I think your credit or score is already affected since you were approved for the card, meaning a hard pull was already done.I think it's best to just keep the card since you already took the hit for it.

I think it depends on how Many inquires you have. If that was your first one it shouldn't be a big deal applying for another. Btw what was your experian score?
