    Default Approved for Citi Forward with No Credit History

    I posted a while back about Citi holding my application until I sent in proof of identity. My waiting paid off-- I called in today to find out I was approved for Citi Forward for College Students with a credit limit of $2000.

    I was nervous about receiving a decision, but shocked that they gave me that limit. I'm a 20-year-old college student with no credit history whatsoever. I do however have substantial savings for a college student and a low $xx,xxx income, so that might have played a role in the decision.

    Maybe this is also a sign that lenders are starting to loosen up a bit? I plan on using this card strictly to build my credit.

    Congrats on the new card! Your new meat for the banks and I'm sure the saving may help out. Just make sure to use it wisely. Keep balances under 25% usage for the best FICO score. If you need more usage than that, do not add more blances to your only card. Apply for a 2nd card with a different bank in 6-12months and only go to 25% of credit line only. Do this until you get to 3-4 cards. Keep them all under 25% usage and pay them off often also. If you have a car loan also, make sure to keep payments ontime. This will set you credit perfectly for a mortgage one day.

    That's good to hear. I will keep that in mind when others in your situation are asking for recommendations.

    The Citi Forward was/is geared towards younger people so the credit history requirements are not uber-strict. When it first launched in the mid '00s I think it was actually branded as the Myspace Forward card and the Myspace later got dropped from the name, for obvious reasons. But it goes to show you the age group the card is tailored to. Here is the review of the Citi Forward.
