Default Credit card suggestions for 22 year old

Ok i'm 22 years old and have never had a credit card before. I've tried applying for a Citi Diamond Preferred MasterCard and was denied. I've also tried applying for a Best Buy mastercard and was also denied. I'm waiting for the free credit report to come in the mail but i'm assuming i have no credit at all, even if i do pay the two bills in my name on time lol. does anyone know of a company that will approve me? I'm looking for a card that ether has super low annual fees or none at all, none at all would be preferred though.

Are you a student? Do you have any income?

At 19 years old and with zero credit history I was approved for a Citi mtvu platinum select visa card, and I've been very happy with it thus far. It's been 9 months and I recently got my $100 reward card from them, it's like getting free money So my suggestion would be to check out some of the easier citi cards.

Looking up your report is a great idea, and depending on if the two bills you have are installments or not you probably don't have any credit. My best advice would be to shoot for the lower end cards and/or card carriers. Don't apply for too many cards the inquiries will damage your credit. You could try Capital One their pretty easy to get but again try a lower end card. Or you could try getting a secured card.

Check out the Citi Forward Credit Card/, the requirements aren't too strict and the rewards are great.

In that case, I would suggest looking at your bank's easiest credit card option, although you may have to go as low as a secured credit card. Once you have a chance to build up your credit for 6-7 months, then you can apply for something with better benefits and rewards, but it looks like your age and lack of credit history have screwed you over for the time being. We all had to start somewhere, if you're responsible with your credit you'll be in better standing than most people within a year or two. Good luck!

Good advice. I wish I would have learned the value of credit in my younger years. I'm paying for it now with high intrest rates. Even if you go with a secured card, once you establish a history for 6-12 months of good payments you will be in good shape and should be able to get an unsecured or have your secured converted with no trouble at all.

Good advice AmanteDecor and SVTNorthTexas. If all else fails go for a secured and your current bank or a credit union may not be a bad place to start.

By the way is SVT in your username in reference to the Ford vehicles?
