Default Building credit after fraud, need help

Here is my situation. When I was a kid I had credit fraud done to me. Someone took out all sorts of card under my name and I owed 15,000. I hired a lawyer a few years ago who was able to completely clear my account of everything. I have 2 credit cards now: A capital one card with a limit of $500 and a old navy card with a limit of $800. Ive had the capital one card for 8 years and the old navy card for 2 years. Capital one has never increased my limit and old navy just did by 500. My credit scores are as follows: 710, 712, and 740. I dont remember which beauru was which. My questions is how do I go about building a greater credit history? Everytime I apply for cards I am denied even though I have good scores. I am a student and make about 15,000 a year. Thanks for any help you can give.

Also I have about 20,00 in student loans currently. I want to increase my limit so I can get better cards withnhigher credit limits in the future.

Those credit scores aren't anything to write home about but I would think you would have been approved for something. What have you applied for?

If a credit score is being hindered by incorrect information then that must be corrected. There is no reason to continue to endure the consequences of the fraud if it is affecting your credit. If the incorrect entries have been removed then it likely the limited credit history that is the cause.

Agreed! What does the fraud have to do with rebuilding credit? Get the wrong stuff of there (if there is any???) and it shouldn't be affecting you.

I suggest you go back to your credit card fraud lawyer and ask him why it seems your record is not cleared since the fraud was done to you and you are not the accused? If that is the reason for your difficulty in getting additional credit cards, then that should be settled.
