7-10 day message, amex 61 day CLI

Postby grifenhagen » Mon May 05, 2014 6:35 pm

i have had my BCE for 62 days, pumped around 2k through it, and always payed in full and payed early so that my utilization on the statement would be less than 30%.
i tried the 61 day CLI and got the 7-10 day message.
my plan was that right after i applied for the CLI, i would apply for 2 more cards with other companies.
what exactly does the 7-10 day message mean? a counter offer? a 4506t? should i call right away or wait until tomorrow? or not call at all?
should i go ahead and apply for the other cards or wait until this CLI is either granted or officially denies? if they ask for a 4506t, i plan to just cancel the request, due to the fact that i haven't filed taxes because i am 18 and my income is, err, tax free, due to the fact that most of it is cash. :cool:
please help!

I can't imagine that calling would hurt. You might as well.

It usually means 4506t. You can call customer rep and ask them to try different amounts each time till it accepts your CLI limit then cancel the other ones.

Thats what I did and it worked.

Call to check status. The generic 7-10 day message could possibly mean that they need to verify your identity and or application information.

A counter offer from AMEX is usually immediate; not likely the reason for the 7-10 day message.

Why do you need/want a 3X CLI at 18? Seems like you're making an assumption that you'll get it, with the plan to apply for 2 more cards with other companies right after. It's not a given that ANYONE will get a 3X CLI. That seems to be a myth perpetuated on "other" boards.
Retired, and in the process of retiring cards!
EQ = 846 EX=828 TU = 836 as of 02/2016

No telling just based on the message itself. Call and find out if you want to know immediately. Otherwise wait for their response.

A counter isn't the reason for the 7-10 but counters can be made after the 7-10. My 7-10 lead to a 4506-T and then a counter based on the income verification.

Your call to make. Are you hoping that the CLI will help your approvals?
