Freedom approval chances? Looking to earn rewards on wedding expenses

Postby db3 » Thu Apr 24, 2014 1:41 pm

Quick Credit history: 7 years, no late payments over 30 days, 708 CS, I currently have 4 cards with limits from $1000-$3000, and 47% utilization right now.

Recently my fiancé got approved for the CSP and we are planning our wedding and I am looking for the best way to earn points to get the most out of all the expenses to come. I am looking to get the Freedom card but am worried that I may get denied because I have recently got the limits for a couple of my cards increased and my utilization is above 30%.

You guys have any thoughts?

It's your call, but for most wedding-related expenses, the Freedom won't do any better than the CSP. You can certainly go for it if you want, and I don't see any reason you wouldn't get it, but you might want to pay down some of your UTIL first so you have a shot at a higher limit.

why not apply for a hotel card that gives you free nights, or an airline card for companion passes + bonus miles? those will go a long way towards your honeymoon trip

Yep. This is what I did- Chase Marriott Premier got me 70k Marriott points, which went a long way on the honeymoon.

Get it lowered. Approvals are certainly possible with higher utilization but it can affect your APR, limit, etc. I've experienced it myself and it can have a drastic impact.

OP should definitely look at the calendar and see if spend would any of the categories:
