Denied!

Postby yurta » Fri Apr 04, 2014 10:21 pm

So Citi just declined my credit card application, saying that they can't verify some of the information I provided. After I applied they got me to fill in this SSA-89 form to check my social security number, but even after that it seems something's not right.

Having found a load of someone else's debts on one of my credit reports a few years ago, I decided to go and see if something else was up. Experian and Equifax look fine, but Trans Union won't even let me get as far as answering their security questions. All I have is some stupid automated phone line and a form you can fill in and mail off to them to request the report.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what's going on here??

Could be identity theft but unsure why it would only be altering info with one bureau. Have you files your taxes yet? We're there problems with that?

Yes, I have actually filed my taxes already. No sign of problems so far, but we're not even at the deadline yet so who knows. What would you expect to happen if someone had stolen my ID?

Could be ID theft or it could be they mixed you up with someone else.

I'd get to the bottom of the Transunion issue if I were you. That's probably not what caused the Citi denial as they pull Experian or at least they always have for me.

What exactly did they say they can't verify? When I applied I got the same thing, where they said they couldn't verify my work phone number (they never tried as far as I can tell) or my address. I was to send them a power bill of my physical address for consideration. Since I was switching it from a PO Box I would have had to wait for it to generate the next month. Then a week or so later they just approved it.

If someone steals your idea they may cash checks against your account, file tax returns, open up credit, make purchases of financial instruments, all in your name. We saw all of this when I worked at a bank. You really need, as member states, to get in touch with Transunion and see what exactly is going on. Good luck.
