Recent credit card offer

Postby pac4toon » Fri Mar 21, 2014 4:04 am

I'm happy with the current cards I carry in my wallet. Highest limit I have is $10,500
and lowest is $5,000. I have a credit score of 740 and above from the 3 credit bureaus.
I regularly receive pre-approved cards in the mail from Chase Freedom, Discover, Amex (charge & credit cards) and Citi. Today I checked the mail and I received a pre-approved credit card from CreditOne who was offering me a whopping $500 credit limit and a ridiculously high APR. LOLOL I was insulted at first... then laughed AT it. I remember CreditOne as being the card that I used at first to rebuild my once ruined credit with a limit of $200.

Thats all. Just sharing.
In my wallet:
AmEx PRG/ BoH Hawaiian Airlines WEMC / Chase Freedom /

In my sock drawer:
AmEx HHonors & BCE

I too have received "started" card pre-approvals in the mail, ever since I have started trying to get card now that I have improved my profile and such. I have cards that charge little to no annual fee and 0% for a year and such. Why apply for a crazy $125 starting balance with 29.9% interest rate and $95 annual fee? I guess it is the concept, thow enough mud at a wall, something will stick. 3 years ago, I'd jump at one of these cards. Now... I'll pass, Thank You!

It's all just marketing. Apply for what you need/want. Don't just respond to offers -- though keep an eye out for any targeted offers.

Does anybody else do this?

I get bombarded with offers, too. Although, pleasantly enough, they have been for better quality cards recently (I get a lot of Amex BCP and Discover it...even after opening a Discover it card). I have no problem with companies marketing cards, but the amount is just insane. I also appreciate, in a way, the prescreened and targeted offers. I'm much more likely to open and consider one of those than if they just litter every mailbox in town with them.

I've gotten to the point where any time I get any offer with one of those business reply mail envelopes, I return it with the blank application...and any other junk mail I can stuff in. I figure I'll let them pay for some extra postage and wages to the mailroom people that will open it, make them waste as much time as they made me waste, and do my part to keep the USPS running. Anyone else do this?

My mailman might think I'm committing some kind of fraud with all the envelopes to credit card companies he sees in my box.

Plus, if enough people were to do this they might start toning down all the junk mail...or they will just start making you use your own stamp. Either way, I'm making 'em pay as much as possible while I can.

My friend who sort of feels like he is competing against me on credit had a first premier bank card with a $200 limit and a $50 AF. I was like dang when he first told me- I was lucky enough to start of with a Bank of America Cash Rewards card with no AF and a $600 limit!

I cancelled my "starter" Cap One a few months ago when they refused to do a CLI or product change for me. A few months go by...and now I get weekly "PLEASE COME BACK" emails from them. You missed the boat, chumps...
