As the title states, I had a Chase charge off from about 3-4 years ago. I have been reading online about removing charge offs from your credit history, and from what I gathered either:
A.) Not going to happen. The banks have no obligation to work with you.
B.) You can offer to pay and agree to have the credit card company remove the charge off from your credit report and mark it as something else.
Is option B possible? What are the chances that Chase would do option B with me? The account was quite minimal, I think around $1,500 - $1,800 and I agreed to pay $1,100 or something like that. Could I offer to pay the remaining balance of $700 or so? (Keep in mind that everything was settled back in 2011.)
Would I actually go through Chase or would I go through the debt collection they hired to collect money from me?
Let me know the possibilities on this or what you think.
EDIT: Looking back now, I wish I would have just paid the minimum payment on this card until times got better and then paid this one off to avoid the charge off. However, the law firm I was going through to settle my debt said to include all credit cards and they would settle them for me. I guess you live and learn. I was young and in college though and my other 2 cards were out of control.
