Can't reach a representative at US Bank

Postby tschmelcher » Tue Feb 04, 2014 7:06 am

For the last few days I've been trying to call US Bank cardmember services to adjust my billing cycle. I'm calling the number on the back of my card (800-285-8585) and pressing 0 to get to a representative. I've tried four times now, and each time an automated message says "Wait times are unusually long right now, and unfortunately we are unable to take your call. Please call back in a few hours." Then they disconnect me!

Anyone else experiencing this? Is there any good time to call?

When I had the Cash + card I had the same thing happen to me. A few weeks later I was able to reach a rep, after calling back a couple of times and holding quite a while.

My guess is they don't have enough reps to handle the demand so sometimes you have this issue. US Bank is the only lender I've seen that with.

My guess to not be able to reach a rep is due to all the merchant compromises, high attrition rate, and product changeover. They re-issued hundreds of thousands of cards due to compromises and most calls consist of activations, and when their automated system has too many people in their call system it defaults to that message that leads to disconnecting you. A lot of the reps that do work do not like the line of work and feel its too difficult to keep up on the change. Also where their call centers are located there is a lot of competition with competing call centers.

Then they should pay their reps more. They could nerf their rewards. Oh wait, they already have on a bunch of their cards. Okay, so they could nerf them even more... the Kroger 1-2-3 card (which is really a 0.5-1.0-1.5 card) could become the 0.1-0.2-0.3 card!

I tried again a couple times since my initial post at different times of day with no change. I give up--I'll just live with the billing cycle as-is. God help me if I ever need to call about something important.
