Need recommendations for a card with specific rewards

Postby Quagdarr » Mon Dec 02, 2013 10:26 am

So many reward offers out there, I figured this will be easier to narrow down. I want to maximize what I get since most will be so insignificant with differing in offers. I thank you in advance!

I am seeking something that will allow for gaining points in every day spending, Gas, Groceries, Utilities. Hopefully by the end of the year enough can be accumulated to yearly get a free flight.

For my mother, I am seeking cards noted for giving a higher CL so to keep utilization down. Cap One is the worst with that, so not them.

*Generally high Credit Limits
*No annual fee
*Best point per dollar gains

*Ideally points can be transferred to a variety of airlines (But if a specific airline card gives better rewards I can push for specific airlines like a Delta. Just one with good service in flights, reputable and a large amount of hubs)

Would a Cash Reward based card be worthwhile? Where we get the points, but the ticket on that card then credit the "cash back" or is that not ideal?

Even if she can get some reduced cost via using some points then pay the difference herself?

I think you're looking for too much in one card. It's like saying I want a Mercedes for a Chevrolet price. Don't we all, but good luck with that.

You can get cards that offer what you are looking for, but not generally with no annual fee. I don't know of any that meets that without a fee.

I would check the travel cards listed on this forum at:

As one resource. There are lots of others, but this is a good list to take a look at.

Any decent travel rewards card charges an annual fee. The only cards that don't have a AF either offer low earnings or don't meet your request for bonus rewards categories of "grocery/gas/utility." Given your requirements, these cards might suit her needs: AmEx Blue Sky, Chase Sapphire, Citi Expedia.

This is why many of us have multiple cards. No one card has it all. I do think she may be better off with a cash rewards card. If you decide to go that route, try the AmEx BCE.
Citi Forward ($10.1K), AmEx Blue Cash Everyday ($30K), Chase Freedom ($12.4K), Discover it ($5.5K), Barclaycard Arrival ($12.5K), L.L. Bean Visa ($5K). FICO 806 (TU), 812 (EQ), 806 (EX).
