How long will it take for a late payment utility bill to fall off my credit report?

Postby creditquestion » Mon Nov 25, 2013 7:12 pm

I paid a utility bill three months late once (basically, I was just dumb, it was my first time having utilities in my name, and didn't totally get how I was supposed to deal with it). Otherwise my credit history is stellar and I have never been late on a single other payment despite having credit cards for about four years now. My average age of account isn't huge but other than that and this I can't think of many things that would be keeping my score down, but I'm only at 760, so I feel like it must be the late bill. Anyway, when will that fall off my credit report, if ever?

After 7 years it will fall off.

That's true, 7 years. But 1 late bill likely will not hurt much. I was stupid a long time ago as well and had a few late payments. They never stopped me from getting credit. The worst that happened is that I was asked to write letter to explain why I paid late.

760 is not a low score.
