Paying cell bill with Credit Cards

Postby BonusPack » Fri Nov 22, 2013 1:53 pm

Hello I'm new to paying bills with my credit cards and last month I made my first payment with a credit card for my phone bill. I used my Amex and everything went smoothly.

I did notice I was charged an extra dollar for paying the bill with credit. Now i knew that some companies will do that but here's my question. If anyone else has had experience with Att do you know whether they charge for other cards or just Amex. Its probably a stupid question but I'm still interested.

If I can save a couple of bucks a month I'm down for it. :money:

Is it part of the total or a separate $1 charge? If its the latter, it will fall off and not be charged.

Not sure who your provider is, but yes they can do that. You can always choose not to pay that way if you don't want to pay that fee.

Personally I feel like they might as well call it a "greed fee" at least the honesty would be refreshing. My provider, Verizon, tried to do that and got such an outcry they dropped the idea. Of course they'll just stick it to us in new ways to make up for it.

Anyway it just really depends on who your cell phone provider is, but they can do that and they will if they feel they can get away with it.

I always pay my cell phone bill with a credit card, and more specifically now, my Wells Fargo Visa. Here's why:

One of the best protection plans going, and better than the so-called protection plans from Assurion or other such warranty services.

I also make my cell phone purchases with one of my AMEX cards for the same reason -- best protection plan for initial purchase of products.
Retired, and in the process of retiring cards!

Its a separate charge. I never got that charge using my debit. Saw it when I used my amex though. I figured they just charge for using credit. I might use my discover next time just to see if they charge that one too. Probably will.

I have AT&T and I pay my bill using my Amex BCE. I don't see an additional $1 charge.
In my wallet:
AmEx PRG/ BoH Hawaiian Airlines WEMC / Chase Freedom /

In my sock drawer:
AmEx HHonors & BCE

This is just a random company, but its an explanation for it. The charge will not post. A lot of companies do this.
