Sometimes I wonder why people even ask this on FICO

Postby MemberSince99 » Thu Nov 14, 2013 4:15 pm

Should I app for this card I REALLY want?

I mean invariably you KNOW what the answer is going to be before you even ask - NO don't leave the garden if you get a single inquiry you'll ruin your entire life and be murdered by terrorists and your children sold into slavery and your home will be nuked! Do NOT leave the garden for anything even if you got offered a trillion dollars to app!!!!

Slight exaggeration there of course, but we all know what their consensus will be. Why do people even ask? If you want the card, and think (or hope) you may have a realistic shot, GO FOR IT! It's your life and your credit, do you raise your children by committee on some internet chat board? I hope not. It should be the same with your credit.

I just wonder why people even ask, is it to get a conversation going? Because you already know the answer before you even type. It's like asking your barber if you need a haircut or the owner of a restaurant if you look hungry or the government if they need more tax revenue or your CEO if he should get a bigger bonus this year - you know the answer before you even ask.

Same reason people post #selfies on social media. They're just looking for validation for what they already know.

Hello all,

I am somewhat new to the forum and not quite down on all the jargon. What does "leave the garden" mean?

Thanks.

The garden basically means you don't apply for any credit cards for a while and you just tend to the ones you have, letting any inquires or negatives fall your credit report

The garden was created mainly because the personality types that tend to be on boards like this are often people who cannot help applying for new credit products regardless if it's actually in their best interests. Sort of like a "credit card rehab". Along the way they came up with a system to indicate reward for people who kept out of "app-ing" the longest. Honestly, I see no problem with it...it probably does a lot of people good. But like with most things online, people can let things get out of hand with their comments.

Citi Thank You Preferred Visa ($9.5K)
Chase Sapphire Preferred ($7.5K)
