My fiancee and I decided to have a custom-made ring, and we paid a deposit to a custom designer, but almost 9 months out, we have not been able to even finalize a design! Since the designer is now insisting that the design we want will incurr more cost, I want to kindly walk away from the transaction and get a refund on our deposit. My fiancee has a Visa cc, so if anyone knows how to go about gettting our money back, I would appreciate it. The designer's assistant has gotten nasty with me via emails at this point, so if I can avoid a confrontation with the designer and his assistant, I would rather take that route.
Do I first have to try to settle our dispute with the designer? Or maybe ask him directly for the money back? I doubt he's willing to do that, probably stating that the money we already gave will go to the time of designing. They argue that I have changed my mind on what I want, but I counter that they have never designed what I have wanted since the beginning.
