$625 Bonus: Best Credit Card Promotions In 2013

Postby kidrock » Thu Oct 31, 2013 5:13 pm

If I do choose to apply for a personal credit card next, my goal is to get the absolute biggest signup bonus possible. 100,000 points is very enticing and that is what I was hoping to find because I remember an airline doing that a couple years ago but I can't find anything like that right now.

My 2nd choice would be for the $625 bonus I read about earlier in 2013. Does that credit card promotion still exist and who's running it because I can't find it anywhere?

FYI I am NOT a big spender which means the card I get next needs to have a reasonable spending requirement for earning the bonus. If it is thousands of dollars that will be too high for me. I need something more along the lines of $500 to $1000 spending requirement. Oh yeah and I will actually use this card long term so I want it to be a good one. No thanks to suggestions for Citi as I've had bad experiences in the past with their foreign customer support.

If you get the awesome First Premier Bank card, there will be a $625 bonus! Oops sorry didn't read the fine print... You give them the $625 "bonus".

Seriously, the Chase Ink Bold and Plus business cards offer a bonus for $625 worth of travel rewards, but you have to spend $5,000 in the first three months.

Very few bonus promotions are going to offer you more than 10% back, I'm afraid.
In my Wallet:
  • Amex PRG NPSL[3-14, bd 91]
  • Sallie Mae MC $8000[1-14]
  • Chase Freedom $4700[1-14]
  • Discover It $2750[8-13]
  • BoA UCF Alumni Cash Rewards $5000 [3-15]
Sometimes in my Wallet:
  • GM BuyPower WEMC $5000[9-14]
  • Wells Fargo Propel 365 Amex $7000[4-14]
  • Barclaycard Arrival WEMC $7000[3-14]
  • BoA Better Balance $3000[2-15]
In my sockdrawer: Amex BCE $1000[10-13, bd 91], OCCU Duck $10000 [11-13], The Sportsman's Guide Visa $8000[8-14], Chase Slate $4000 [9-14]Delta Gold Amex $2000 [2-15 bd 91], Diners Club MC $20000 [10-14] Commerce Bank Visa $2000 [3-15] Citi Double Cash $1000 [3-15]
Total CL: $90450

If that's the case then you need to adjust your expectations. I'd say a $100-150 bonus (or equivalent miles/points) is reasonable to expect for you.

Don't confuse "reasonable" with "fits my spend" (or "reasonable for me").

"Good" is highly subjective regardless of topic and doesn't mean anything without qualification. What are you specifically looking for in a card?

No need for the smart @ss replies. I was just asking a question for crying out loud. Since you guys act like you know it all, then maybe you will know what is the best credit card promotion with the lowest spending requirement. My opinion of what 'good' rewards are would be earning the highest amount possible on what i buy.

I'm not sure if that would be cash back or frequent flyer miles because i could be interested in either if the system is good enough. my only complaint about mileage programs is that i am fed up with black out dates and that kind of crap and would like avoid signing up for an airline card that gives me a bonus i can't use. or i can't get enough miles to get the ticket i want so they all go to waste.

What you want/need is the Fizzbin Black Signature Visa. It's easier to get than the First Premier Card. After spending $100, you get a $500 statement credit, a free case of Fat Tire Beer, and a roundtrip first class ticket to London where you'll be comped a room in the Oliver Messel Suite at the Dorchester. After that, enjoy 10% cash back on gas, 8% at grocery stores and restaurants, and a whopping 35% at playboy.com!

No one else here wanted you to know about this card because they're worried about the Messel suite being booked when they want to go. I've already gone this year, so screw them...

What all these smart asses are saying is that you're asking for two things that generally don't work together. High bonuses require high spend. There's no way to get around that.

The $625 bonus from Chase's Ink Bold and Plus require $5,000 of spend. The 100k Chase British Airways bonus only requires $2,000 to get the first 50k, but then another $10,000 for the next 25k and another $10,000 for the final 25k, both within a year. You can also get a companion pass at the $30k spend level. Very lucrative, but huge spend requirement.

Of course, none of this is a problem if you're willing to manufacture some of your spend. $5,000 can be done in a day. $20,000 might take a month or two. There are plenty of ways to get what you want. You just have to be willing to do a little work.
