Currently AU - should I become joint user?

Postby WhiskeyGuy » Mon Oct 28, 2013 4:18 pm

Hi all,

My parents opened an "emergency credit card" for me 9 years ago. The card is in my dad's name and I'm an authorized user (AU). This account shows up on my credit reports, which is great b/c the account has been open so long and has a perfect payment history.

I've taken over the account, putting a small purchase on it each month and paying off the balance each month in full. I'm curious though if I should ask to be made an joint user. Would doing so help my credit score? Any reason to think that making a transition negatively impact my score?

Thanks for any insight.
