Need Cap One help

Postby Ikarus » Fri Sep 06, 2013 12:30 pm

I've had 2 no-frills Cap One Platinum cards since my BK in '06 and I'm ready to upgrade.

I'm a student, but Journey is known for a low CL, so Venture looks like the better option.

I had the reps reverse my annual fee on one card, so both cards now sit at a $0 balance.

The cards have a CL of $1800 and $750.

Is it possible to have the combined CL of my old Platinum cards transferred to the Venture, Journey, or Quicksilver?

I'm also set to obtain another small set of cards. I'm looking at:

CapOne Venture or Quicksilver

Barclaycard Rewards Mastercard (been getting pre-approved offers for 2 years)

I have CitiForward. Is CitiDividend worth it?

BankAmericard (student card with 0% APR for 15 mos)

Chase Slate (it was tough getting the Freedom; does Chase allow 2 cards?)

Is USBank Cash + still an "it" card? I'm about to drop banking with them, as I can't avoid checking acct fees.

Any cards that I'm missing?

My FICO has been 737 for the past 6 months.

What are my chances?

Cap1 only lets you have 2 cards, so you'll have to cancel one to apply for another. I'd cancel the $750 card as it will never get any higher and apply for the Venture - but you should have better choices with your credit scores, so it might be best to just hold onto the Cap1 cards for your AAoA and go for something better, maybe a Chase Saphire or something.

Woth is always highly subjective. Read the details and decided. If you want a recommendation one way or another you'll have to clearly define your needs/wants/priorities/etc.

I have 3. Some have more.

Another subjective matter. You need to get cars that suit you versus "it" cards.

Again, what are you looking for? What do you need? What do you want? What do you not want? What are you major spend categories? What are your goals?

Cap One waived my $19 annual fee on my $1800 card, b/c I asked. You're right. Drop the $750 card, but neither card is good. Ideally, I'd like to have one card with a combined CL from both cards to leave one more Cap One slot open in the future. Venture is good, but Quicksilver is even better. It would be nice to trade up and have both. I'm a grad student, so Journey is also available to me.

At this stage? No annual fees + rewards for every card. My two Cap One cards are duds - annual fees + no rewards.

I have $14K in total credit, but want $20 - 25K. I want cards with higher credit lines to keep my debt-to-credit ratio low. Perhaps even an American Express card again, as I never carry a balance?

Right now, I'm looking to get another card with a 0% APR balance transfer for 12 months. I bought a laptop on my CitiForward card and the 0% APR expires in a week. I need to transfer that $1400 balance to a card quick or pay $17/month in interest. BarclayCard has been sending me pre-approved mailers for months. Perhaps I should take them up on the offer and quickly transfer this balance?

I've seen people who have pre approvals get turned down once the numbers are ran and credit report is pulled (credit is a constant change)

What are you going to grad school for / when are you graduating /

Do you have any taxable income ATM?

I got a notice last week that my Capital One No Hassles Reward (Platinum Mastercard) is getting upgraded to a QuicksilverOne in November. (I'd prefer the regular Quicksilver, but I'm not expecting them to change me from an annual-fee card to a no-fee card out of the blue. Still, not waiting a year for that .5% bonus is nice.) (a) Have you received any notices of a change in your current cards, and (b) Since they're changing a lot of people, you might have some good luck in getting what you have changed into something different.

I paid all of my cards (except one) down to $0 last week to prep for applying for new cards.

When will the payments hit the account and show $0 balance on my credit reports?

Not until month's end? Or is it based on when a statement is generated for each card?

Does anyone know of a good 12-month (or greater) 0% APR card?

I'm looking to do a balance transfer on the card I left with a balance. $1400 of $4000 is being utilized.

(Sorry, Midori, I didn't receive any such mailer.)

The last of my cards finally reported $0 balance (except the one I plan to balance transfer), so I'm ready to apply for my next round of cards. Yes, I have taxable income.

Looking for...
... no annual fee
... rewards
... travel card
... high-CL + long 0% APR for balance transfer

Any tips on negotiating...
... a CLI with Chase Freedom?
... a combined card from two Cap One cards? VentureOne (no annual fee) or Quicksilver?

Questions...
... when did PenFed stop offering cards?
... are AMEX Blue Cash Everyday and Citi ThankYou Preferred good cards when you already have CitiForward, Chase Freedom, and Discover it?
... which cards tend to give high credit lines? Seems like Citi seems like a winner. However, I already have a $4K card with them.

Maybe others have found Citi to be generous, but I've found them rather suspicious and stingy. I got my plain-jane Citi ThankYou because I'd thought it would be an easy card to get with my banking history with Citibank, but I wouldn't go out of my way to pick up another Citi card. When I got mine, it took them two months to decide to give me a card with a $3k limit... since auto-CLI'ed to $4200. It was marginally better than what Cap One did for me. It was left in the dust by what Amex did for me.

My overall credit utilization is 10% (90% available).

Tonight, I went to www.creditcards.com/cardmatch for soft pull to see best bets:
- Cap One Venture (annual fee)
- Cap One Venture (no annual fee)
- Cap One Platinum Prestige
- Cap One Quicksilver
+ 3 First Premier Bank cards I'd never get

Note: I gave my name and address, but did not give SSN.

Tomorrow's plan:
- apply for AMEX Blue Cash Everyday first (hard pull)
- chat with Cap One to turn convert old cards > Venture or Quicksilver (do they back date, like AMEX?)
- chat with Chase for CLI (no hard pull)
- chat with Discover for CLI (no hard pull)
