Best Cashback Credit Card For Big Spenders?

Postby biggestdan » Thu Sep 05, 2013 6:31 pm

Hi.

I am looking to get a credit card that hopefully does not have any limit on cash back %'s.

I spend around $3k a month on restaurants, $500 on gas, $500 on groceries.

I travel maybe once or twice a year, always on virgin america.

I have a 760 credit score.

Looking for a cash back credit card that will give me the maximum % return per year. I know there are a few that offer 5% on dining, but they max out after 2k per quarter. What am I missing?

It seems like my best bet is most likely the AMEX True Earnings / costco card since its 2% with no cap on restaurants.

Thoughts?

Get Costco card and use it for restaurants for your 2% but your better off getting BCP with $75 AF that gives you 3% on gas no limit and 6% on groceries with 6K a year limit.

Not sure what other cards out there without AF that gives you 2% or more on dining out.

You can always get both Amex cards.
Cap! QuickSilver VISA 2005 $6500
Chase Freedom MC 2006 $5000
Amex Sky 1999 $2000
BCE 1999 $8800
NFL 2013 $1500
Discover IT 2013 $3500
FICO July 16/2012 ---- 742 Experian (Amex)
BK comes off ---- 9/2014

Fidelity Amex offers 2% cash back everywhere, no cap or annual fee.

BCP may also be a good option for gas and groceries.

I spend about the same on groceries and gas as you per month. Agreeing with DeadSpider, I use the AmEx Blue Cash Preferred, I get about $50 bucks a month back and that's all I use it for. Costco card is good for sure, but where I live there is no Costco. Also, Chase Sapphire Preferred has 2X points on dining and travel with no caps, a great signup bonus and great customer service. Fidelity Amex as DavidNY mentioned is also a good choice.

I'm going to go odd-man-out here and suggest the Barclay Arrival card. 2% on everything, and, if you choose to redeem your points for statement credits against travel, you get a 10% bonus, so everything is really 2.2% back. It's not a card that I carry, but it sounds like it may suit you well.

This looks like a good contender. It has a 40k sign-up bonus (Worth $400 or more if redeemed for travel) and is a MC. There is a $89 AF but it's waived the first year.

You might want to get several cards to maximize your rewards since they almost all have limits. I do this:

  • Pay Pal Extras MC for Restaurants: It's 3x points for restaurants, but GE kinda screws people over with points and for cash redemption 1 point = a little over 4/5ths of a penny. So you end up with around 2.4%. There is a yearly limit of 50,000 points, but that's higher than most cards.
  • BoA Cash Rewards- 3% gas... although I am using Discover It this quarter(5%),
  • Barclaycard- 2% groceries.
In my Wallet:
  • Amex PRG NPSL[3-14, bd 91]
  • Sallie Mae MC $8000[1-14]
  • Chase Freedom $4700[1-14]
  • Discover It $2750[8-13]
  • BoA UCF Alumni Cash Rewards $5000 [3-15]
Sometimes in my Wallet:
  • GM BuyPower WEMC $5000[9-14]
  • Wells Fargo Propel 365 Amex $7000[4-14]
  • Barclaycard Arrival WEMC $7000[3-14]
  • BoA Better Balance $3000[2-15]
In my sockdrawer: Amex BCE $1000[10-13, bd 91], OCCU Duck $10000 [11-13], The Sportsman's Guide Visa $8000[8-14], Chase Slate $4000 [9-14]Delta Gold Amex $2000 [2-15 bd 91], Diners Club MC $20000 [10-14] Commerce Bank Visa $2000 [3-15] Citi Double Cash $1000 [3-15]
Total CL: $90450

I get the US Bank Cash+ suggestion, but why BCE? With as much as OP spends a month on gas/groceries, wouldn't BCP be more beneficial? Also is the US Bank card capped?

The Cash+ from US Bank has good rewards... the only problem is the OP is located in Florida where US Bank has no footprint in the south and the card can only be applied for inside a US Bank.
