Details about new Wells Fargo American Express Card

Postby Vandalized2 » Sun Sep 01, 2013 2:25 am

Currently I have a Wells Fargo Platinum Visa with minimal rewards. I do not use this card because my USbank Cash+ offers me a better service to VISA and better rewards.

Now with Wells Fargo and AMEX getting together do you think I will be able to product change my current VISA to an AMEX after they start making cards public in mid-2014?

If so, with the revamped rewards and switching to AMEX which I love, will it be beneficial to start using this card again in mid 2014?

Putting an Amex logo on it doesn't make it a real Amex. It just runs on the Amex network, but it's still issued by WF, so I doubt it will be any better than your current Visa.
Blue Cash Preferred ($24K), Costco TrueEarnings ($8K), Better Balance Rewards ($6K), CashForward ($15K), Sallie Mae Rewards ($10K), Quicksilver ($17K), AARP Rewards ($15K), Freedom ($15K), Double Cash ($16.5K), It ($28.5K), Fidelity Investment Rewards ($18K), Cash+ ($11K)

I'm taking a wait and see attitude about the Wells Fargo American Express for a few reasons:

(1) Of the four largest banks in the US (Chase, BoA, Citi, and Wells Fargo), Wells Fargo has the most boring offerings by far. In addition to having the least exciting rewards program of the "big four" banks, Wells Fargo also has a reputation for being stingy with CLI's. Perhaps someone in WF's CC Department had an epiphany (or looked at how far behind their product line is compared to everyone else) and realized people aren't going to stick to their cards simply because they bank there. Perhaps the WF AMEX will be something special.

(2) Wells Fargo and American Express have a shared history (Wells and Fargo were two of the founders of AMEX, so perhaps there will be some sort of "synergy"(or whatever these CEO types call it) with this new card. There's been little details about the card yet- maybe it will be some sort of joint card like the Amex Costco card.

In any case... the WF American Express card HAS to be better than what they are currently offering simply because it just can't get any worse... I would hope Wells Fargo would realize they aren't going to fool a lot of people by simply replacing the VISA logo on the bottom of the card with an AMEX logo. (What are they going to advertise: "The same boring Wells Fargo card with less acceptance than our ordinary VISA cards!" )

Any news on when they're unleashing the new card? I can't find anything on their website. Apparently they first "announced" this back in April

I've done some digging around and a Wells Fargo spokesperson claims the partnership goes beyond slapping an AmEx logo on a WF credit card. Apparently AmEx is involved with product design, marketing, and redesigning WF rewards programs. Not sure if it's just empty talk or a serious change.

I'd love to PC my WF Visa (my first card) to an AmEx if the rewards are better.

Yeah even if they didnt offer a whole heck of a lot as far as changes I would still like the AMEX logo instead of the VISA. Just bad experiences with VISA and AMEX seems to always have my back on things that i need backing.

I really hope they allow PC from our current Wells Fargo portfolio, that would be really nice giving us that choice and potential for better rewards.

I would certainly consider changing from the subpar Visa rewards card to the new Amex if the rewards were better.

The AMEX logo has some sort of power over all of us, even when it's not a card issued by AMEX. I'm still waiting for the First Premier Bank AMEX card to come out... "Pay as much in fees annually as an AMEX Platinum card holder, but without all those annoying benefits!" could be their new ad. You just know someone would fall for it...

Wells Fargo Amex card agreement has now appeared in their web: https://www08.wellsfargomedia.com/assets/pdf/personal/credit-cards/agreements/wf_propel_card.pdf

Last page of the document has pricing info. Surprisingly, no FTF.

BearsAndTurtlesRTheBest would be first in line to app for it. Bonus points if he drapps.
