If it's important to you because it makes you feel like you've "arrived" financially, then I don't really have an argument about that. If it's important to you because of the "benefits" you think it offers, well I get much better benefits banking elsewhere with no minimum balance requirement. Example: WF will reimburse you for up to two non-Wells ATM transactions per month. I get ALL my ATM fees reimbursed with no limits. Sorry, the benefits of the Wells Fargo PMA status aren't worth letting $25,000 sit idle in the bank.
Luckily my PMA is linked to a Well Fargo Advisors brokerage account. There is no $25,000 sitting idle. ATM fees are a non issue for me since I never use an ATM nor do I even keep a debit card in my wallet.
Many online banks and credit unions reimburse the ATM fees. I just prefer the convenience of a brick & mortar establishment. Why don't I just bank with a credit union? There are three Wells Fargo branches within five miles of my residence. The closest credit union is the next town over.
