Back after a hiatus

Postby Sevenfeet » Tue Aug 20, 2013 10:13 am

Hey guys,

I've been away for several weeks since work just got crazy after I accepted a new assignment. And yes, a few things have happened to me in the credit game too. So let's go to the review...

I think I said earlier that I was going to acquire a Wells Fargo Home Builders card for the sole purpose of financing a HVAC unit purchase after the one attached to my house failed after 13 years. This card is primarily just to hold the purchase for awhile until my wife and I can absorb it in the budget. Since it's 0%/12 months, I have a little time but I cannot allow any of the money used here to go past 12 months since I'm looking at 28% interest after that (a really lousy product). I will never use this product again.

When I decided to pull the trigger on my Chase Sapphire Preferred card, it was solely to get the 40K points benefit, but in my case, I only had to spend $2000 over a 3 months period, not $3000. I've pretty much done that in 6 weeks ($50 left) so I will probably park this card now except for reasons I really need it (and I already have the Amex Plat as a travel card). I will consolidate the points with the points we have already from our Freedom card and probably use it for an upcoming vacation.

Discover just gave me another CLI at the six month period...another $750...whee! Thanks guys, but I'm really not impressed.
Cards:

Penfed Platinum Reward Visa ($28K)
Chase Freedom Visa ($25K)

Bank of America Cash Rewards MasterCard ($20K)
Citi Thank You Preferred Visa ($9.5K)
Chase Sapphire Preferred ($7.5K)
US Bank Cash + Visa Signature ($7K)
Discover IT ($4K)

I think you'll discover that the CSP is a better card for spend than the Platinum. I keep the CSP for the points. I have the Plat for the benefits, not the points.

I pretty much use the Plat for benefits too...mostly airport lounges. We use the card mainly for Costco purchases these days just to keep something charged to it monthly. Otherwise the spending on the card has been transferred to other cards (Fidelity Amex, Penfed and Amex BCP).
